Podkrkonoší is a region of Czech located on the south mountaine under Krkonoše. The tallest mountain in this region is famous Zvičina (671 metres). Typical features for Podkrkonoší are fruit growing, spa and a great deal of abundance of sandstone, which is processed here for various building elements and for building purposes with the center in Hořice. The Czech artists, who have unforgettably enlisted in our history and recorded this work in their works, were Karel Václav Rais (native, writer and poet from Spa Bělohrad), Karel Jaromír Erben (native, writer and poet from Miletin), Bedřich Smetana (our great composer, his family came from Hořice), Jan Amos Comenius (a great scholar residing in Bílá Třemešná) and Kryštof Harant of Polžice and Bezdružice (master of Pecce - writer, nobleman, warrior, diplomat, traveler and musician). Famous and well-known regional products are sour soup, plums sauce with smoked meat, poppy seeds with sirup, Hořické tubes, Miletín prayers or beautiful, hand-blown and painted glass Christmas decorations in the shop in Dvůr Králové nad Labem.
